51 mixes from Manchester’s Haçienda, available now on Apple Music, celebrate the club that redefined club culture and electronic music between the ’80s and ’90s
More than just a club, FAC 51 The Haçienda was a true cultural symbol. Founded in Manchester (UK) in the early 1980s by Rob Gretton (manager of Joy Division and later New Order) and Tony Wilson (Factory Records, publisher and record producer), the project involved Joy Division/New Order members Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris, and Peter Hook. The Haçienda – which opened in 1982 and closed in 1997 – played a crucial role in shaping the birth and concept of club culture and electronic music.
Today, its legacy comes alive once again with the release of 51 historic DJ mixes, available exclusively on Apple Music. The collection spans from 1987 to today, featuring recordings from both the original club nights and later Haçienda events.
Featured artists include Armand Van Helden, Carl Craig, David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Louie Vega, Roger Sanchez, and Todd Terry, alongside residents Mike Pickering, Graeme Park, DJ Paulette, and Jon Dasilva. It’s a sonic journey that captures the energy and impact of one of the most influential clubs in history.
