Padre Guilherme returns to Mexico City

Padre Guilherme will return to Mexico this December, with a special performance scheduled for Saturday, December 5, 2026 at the Velódromo Olímpico in Mexico City. The date follows his December 3 appearance in Guadalajara and marks his third visit to Mexico, where his unusual combination of electronic music and Christian spirituality has already built a strong following.

Born Guilherme Peixoto in Guimarães, Portugal, Padre Guilherme is a Catholic priest, former military chaplain and DJ who has developed a distinctive musical language somewhere between techno, melodic techno and spiritual music. His sets combine electronic rhythms with religious messages, spoken words and references to popes, with the aim of reaching young audiences through a language that exists beyond the traditional boundaries of the church.

His relationship with electronic music goes back many years. After becoming a priest, Peixoto began studying DJing and producing electronic music, initially using parties and music events to help raise funds for his parish. During the Covid-19 lockdown, he started streaming techno sets online, gradually developing the sound and concept that would turn him into one of the most recognisable DJ priests in the world.

The breakthrough came in August 2023, when Padre Guilherme performed at the World Youth Day in Lisbon, playing an early-morning electronic set for a crowd connected to an event attended by around 1.5 million pilgrims. Images of the priest behind the decks, wearing his clerical collar and mixing techno with religious references, quickly spread around the world.

Since then, his career has taken him well beyond Portugal. He has performed at major electronic music events and venues, including Afterlife at Hï Ibiza, as well as festivals in Europe and Latin America. He has also played beneath Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer and in other locations where his music has become a meeting point between contemporary club culture and spirituality.

In an interview with DJ Mag Italia, Padre Guilherme explained his approach clearly: electronic music, in his view, can be a common language through which to reach young people. Rather than expecting them to enter a church to hear a religious message, he prefers to meet them where they already are — on the dancefloor.

That philosophy has continued to define his performances. In 2025, his appearance outside the Cathedral of St. Elisabeth in Košice, Slovakia, became another international talking point when Pope Leo XIV appeared via video message, with excerpts from the papal address subsequently incorporated into the electronic set.

Mexico City will therefore be another chapter in a story that continues to blur the boundaries between the church, electronic music and contemporary youth culture. On December 5, the Velódromo Olímpico will provide the setting for Padre Guilherme's latest Mexican appearance — a night where the language of the dancefloor meets a very different kind of message.
